The Human Resources Manager will provide a wide range of support and consulting services to the Sheridan Libraries, including recruitment and employment, employee and labor relations, training and education, personnel records management, performance management, salary and compensation administration, diversity and benefits administration. This includes fostering practices that produce improved productivity and effective work environment, ensuring human resources activities, services and counsel are carried out consistent with and supportive of established university-wide and divisional human resources vision, mission and plans, working in partnership and consultation with central and divisional human resources leadership and specialists, serving as a member of the Libraries' management team, and promoting actions that encourage and create an environment that integrates diversity, differences, and fairness as essential components of the Sheridan Libraries as a successful, productive organization. Duties include the following: establish Libraries-specific policies and procedures that are in-line with the mission and strategic goals and initiatives of Human Resources and the university as a whole; serve on various university human resources committees and task forces and recommend new policies and modifications to current human resources policies, procedures and programs; review and verify the completeness, accuracy and appropriateness of various human resources documentation, forms, requests, and activities of staff within the Libraries; develop and implement creative programs to address the unique needs of the Libraries relating to staffing and retention, staff development, performance management, compensation and programs to enhance the level of human resource and managerial competence; conduct organizational development assessment and interventions; serve as ex-officio on the Libraries' Diversity Committee to plan and coordinate efforts to enhance a library environment that values, welcomes, and respects all staff and clientele and their differences; coordinate monthly staff exchanges; coordinate library-wide social events; oversee and manage payroll and student employment for the Libraries; and supervise Libraries' Human Resources Administrative Coordinator. The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the John Work Garrett Library, the George Peabody Library, and the Albert D. Hutzler Undergraduate Reading Room. Its primary constituency is the students and faculty in the schools of Arts & Sciences, Engineering, and Professional Studies in Business & Education. Key partners in the academic enterprise, the Libraries are a leader in the innovative application of information technology and have implemented notable diversity and organizational development programs. The Sheridan Libraries are strongly committed to diversity. A strategic goal of the Libraries is to 'work toward achieving diversity when recruiting new and promoting existing staff.' Qualifications:  

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with five or more years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management (additional human resources generalist experience may substitute for educational requirements. Requires demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, and implement a wide range of human resources programs independently and in collaboration with other HR professionals; excellent consulting and negotiation skills to provide appropriate counsel, advice and work in partnership with management and staff on human resources matters, and conflict resolution; demonstrated organizational development and change management skills, highly capable of working with different leadership styles, diverse and/or complex organizational issues and structures; excellent oral and written communication skills to promote and communicate human resources programs to the Libraries staff; distinct ability to work collaboratively with others both within and outside of Human Resources; ability to respect the confidentiality of sensitive information; creativity and resourcefulness to handle various human resources issues and concerns effectively; must demonstrate a high level of competency and mastery in effective management resolution of employee and labor relations issues. Possess in-depth knowledge, mastery and skill in two or more primary human resources functions: employment and recruitment, compensation, benefits, organizational design and development, employee training and education; in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations in human resources; working knowledge of emerging trends and practices in human resources; and ability to work with and use current information technology.

Preferred Qualifications: 
Human resources generalist experience.
