The Library Assistant position is responsible for the operation of the Gilman Storage Stacks and is charged with properly maintaining 300,000 volumes that are filed in the Library of Congress classification sequence. The Library Assistant's responsibilities include: filing, straightening, shifting, and reading shelves to ensure correct call number sequence of materials; training and overseeing student assistants; assisting patrons in locating materials; reporting maintenance problems (locks, plumbing, furniture, other equipment); assisting in enforcement of library rules and regulations; assembling/disassembling and moving furniture as needed; performing minor maintenance on photocopy machines, and other duties as assigned. This position requires driving a 15-passenger van as needed. The Sheridan Libraries are strongly committed to diversity. Qualifications: High School graduate with 1-2 years related experience (additional education may be substituted for some experience); ability to work with hand/small power tools; ability to lift and move heavy books and equipment up to 70 lbs.; knowledge of PC/basic computer skills; excellent communication skills; ability to work independently. NOTE: Valid US driver’s license with a good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications: Some college with one year of library experience; knowledge of Library of Congress classification system; online catalog and supervisory experience. Note: The successful candidate(s) for this position will be subject to a pre-employment background check. |
