Congressional Quarterly's Guide to the Presidency (GPML Ref JK516.C67 2002) Contains factual information about the institution and the preseidents as well analytical chapters that explain the structure and operations of the office.  It also covers the president's relationship to Congress and the Supreme Court.

Presidential Statements, Executive Orders & Vetoes:

  • Public Papers of the President of the United States 
    This series began in 1957.  Search online the Public Papers for Presidents George H.W. Bush, Clinton, and George W. Bush.  In print, we own the volumes covering the administrations of Herbert Hoover through George W. Bush. Each Public Papers volume contains the papers and speeches of the President of the United States that were issued by the Office of the Press Secretary during the specified time period
  • Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents via GPO since 1993
    Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents is published every Monday and is the official publication of presidential statements, messages, remarks, and other materials released by the White House Press Secretary. Published by the Office of the Federal Register (OFR), National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents first began in 1965 and is available on GPO Access from 1993 forward.

    A search tip: To find executive orders in the Weekly Comp, search using the term in quotes "Executive Order"
  • Federal Register  
    Published by the Office of the Federal Register, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents.   • Executive Order Disposition Tables
    "These tables contain information about, but not the text of, Executive orders beginning with those signed by President Kennedy. They are arranged according to Presidential administration and year of signature."
