I. Topic analysis, search strategy, search terms

Identifying and refining a research topic

Identifying relevant information sources

Brainstorming search terms

Constructing effective searches using operators ("and," "or," "not")

II. Finding articles

A. Use the databases below to find articles, books, book chapters, and other publications relevant to your topic (they may or may not be available full text online, and may or may not be owned by JHU).

NOTE:  Before you can access the JHU-licensed databases below from home, you must EITHER:

  • Log in with your JHED ID and password (you'll be prompted when you click on a database link)
    OR
  • Download and run the JHSecure VPN software on your home computer.  Find out more about JHSecure.
This link opens a new window - Info About PsycINFO PsycINFO  (All US JHU)

See other education and counseling article databases

B. If you find something you want in one of these databases, but there's no full text online:

  • Look for the FIND IT button in the record for the article: Find It
Clicking this button in the article record will open a new window that will display all the possible ways the article is available through the JHU Libraries.

III. Finding books and other materials owned by the JHU Libraries

Access to books and other full-length materials (i.e., not articles) owned by the JHU Libraries.  What to do if you need something we don't own.

IV. Citing sources

APA format and lots more.  Try RefWorks!
